The old city of Zohar HaNegev has a formidable presence in the midst of the Israeli desert, gazing over The Dead Sea. Sitting a top a 2000 year old warren of streets and avenues and rising to as many as 15 storeys high, these 4.5 acres of solid building were once home to 15,000 people living autonomously from government authority.
How did it come about? And why has it been abandoned? Many stories have been woven to explain its clearance. But which one is true?
Zohar HaNegev is a first person tour through 3 sections of the abandoned Israeli city. Starting with a helicopter ride over the desert, continuing through the top floors and ending in the 2000 year old passageways, the viewer will learn the history of the city’s creation and its ultimate desertion.
Zohar HaNegev itself, will be recreated through the use of 3D-CG technology and advanced compositing techniques. The back story and information will be revealed through the use of aesthetically projected text on the many walls and artifacts that lay within the structures.
